Overview

Machinist Companion is designed to collect as little personal information as practical. The public application does not currently require an account, payment information or a user profile, and it does not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics.

First-Party Traffic Analytics

Machinist Companion records limited first-party traffic information so the operator can understand which pages and tools are being used. Recorded analytics include the requested page, timestamp, referring website domain (when supplied by the browser), broad device type, and a privacy-preserving daily visitor identifier. The identifier is created from ordinary request information using a one-way keyed hash and changes by day. Raw IP addresses are not stored in the Machinist Companion analytics database.

Analytics records are kept for up to 24 months and are used only to understand site usage, improve the application, diagnose problems and evaluate traffic trends. Machinist Companion does not sell this analytics information or use it for targeted advertising.

Hosting & Security Logs

The hosting provider and normal internet infrastructure may process ordinary request information such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, requested paths and security or rate-limit information as necessary to deliver and protect the service. Their processing and retention practices are governed by their own policies.

Cookies

Public calculator use does not require analytics or advertising cookies. A strictly necessary, secure authentication cookie is used only when the site administrator signs in to the private analytics area. It is not used to track public visitors or for advertising.

Browser Storage

Calculator preferences and state may be stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This information remains on your device unless your browser or device synchronizes it. You can clear it using your browser's site-data controls; doing so may reset saved calculator settings.

Calculator Requests

Values needed to perform server-side calculations may be transmitted to Machinist Companion for processing. The application is designed not to require personally identifying information for ordinary calculations. Do not enter confidential, export-controlled, personal or safety-sensitive information into calculator fields.

Future Features

If accounts, payments, cloud synchronization, advertising or materially different analytics are introduced, this notice should be updated before those features begin collecting additional personal information, and consent mechanisms will be added where required.

Your Choices

You may use browser controls to clear locally stored application state and may use privacy features that limit referrer information. Because the analytics visitor identifier is deliberately pseudonymous and changes daily, Machinist Companion generally cannot associate analytics records with a named individual.
